For the first time since franchise relocation, the Lewiston MAINEiacs are heading to the Presidents Cup final. Lewiston defeated the Huskies 4-3 last night at the Dave Keon Arena in Rouyn-Noranda, sweeping the series four games to none.

After a thrilling first period which saw six goals between the two clubs spanning in the early and late seconds of the frame, the MAINEiacs would seal the game and the series in the second on a breakaway pass from David Perron to Marc-Andre Cliche. The goal with 12:41 remaining was all Lewiston needed as they controlled play the rest of the way. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier made some incredible stops in the dying seconds of the game in a last gasp effort by the Huskies to try to tie the game up and force overtime.

The MAINEiacs await their next opponent, presumably the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, as they are up 3-1 on the Val d’Or Foreurs. The Eagles could wrap up the series with a win this Friday night in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The Presidents Cup series final is tentatively scheduled to start Friday, May 4th, in Lewiston.
